The HD-DVD addon for Xbox 360 just came in to my Gamestop this afternoon. I bought some HD-DVDs a week ago on Buy.com when they had them 2 for $30.
Chronicles of Riddick
Aeon Flux
Doom
Terminator 3
Pitch Black
Serenity
Unforgiven
Slither
Troy
Batman Begins
So far I've only watched them on my 32" Samsung LCD over VGA at 1360x768. Tommorow or Sunday I'm going to move everything into the room with the big speakers and 37" 1080p LCD. I can still easily notice a vast improvement over upscaled DVDs. Most noticably the lighting is far improved, with the reflections even in the eye being more prevalent. You can actually tell what color character's eyes are, and they look bright.
The setup was pretty straightforward. The thing is frickin huge! It's bigger than the Wii! 2/3 the height of the 360 and the same width. The open button is illuminated with a green light just like the ring of light. Before you can actually use the thing you have to use an install disc that updates your console and disc tray icon in the dashboard. It's divided into two now. Top is for the DVD drive, bottom for HD-DVDs.
King Kong and the Universal Remote come with it (you probably already knew that.) I don't know for how long it'll have that bundle. King Kong looks amazing by the way. I only watched a couple of scenes (movie is too damn long). The menus in the HD-DVDs are really innovative. You can access everything like a normal DVD, but you can do it all while watching the movie. Overall I'm pretty impressed with this. The addon may take up 100% of the 360's power but you hardly notice it. It doens't lag when you use the guide button. I even sent a friend a message while watching the movie.
If you've already seen some HD-DVDs that you like (AND you own an HDTV already) then I'm gonna suggest you pick it up. In my case, I only own most of those movies in HD-DVD, I rarely buy DVDs, and I got it on credit so it was a good purchase to me. Can't wait to check these out in 1080p. And I'm sure tis will be my main method of movie watching when all the movies start coming out in HD-DVD.
