How's 1080p?

I normally game on a 32" Westinghouse LCD with a maximum resolution 1366x768. When Gears of War and the HD-DVD addon debuted, I planned to move the Xbox 360 out into the living room and game on a 37" Westinghouse 1080p LCD.

I had known about the 1080p Fall Update, but I had no idea it would come so soon. I can tell you from personal experience, that Sony was right. 1080p is the new hotness, although it's not required, it sure does help. VGA is also a better solution than Component. The colors are more vivid, and the picture is sharper. After watching a few videos off of Xbox Live Marketplace, I could instantly see an improvement on my LCD that was not present when using 720p over Component. I even popped in King Kong on DVD and noticed that it looked easily improved. Makes me excited to check it out on HD-DVD, in native 1080p vs upscaled 480i.

The next thing, obviously, was to check out the games. I played Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, Splinter Cell: Double Agent, and Just Cause in 1080p, and noticed overall improvement. The jagged lines were less prevalent, and the colors were richer, even in the last gen ports. Lost Planet, Perfect Dark Zero, and even Kameo were improved. Rich colors, sharper picture, it was almost like seeing HD all over again.

Of course I watched the Halo 3 trailer, and the Gears of War promo-ad. I even checked out the After Dark video and streamed the multiplayer Gametrailer videos from my PC. I can honestly say I've never been more satisfied with my HDTV, or my Xbox 360. And the games will keep on coming. I can't wait to see the second generation of the Xbox 360's games, and the future of gaming in hi-def.
